How It Began
ParentSays was started by two dads who, along with their wives, were constantly
faced with the challenge of choosing the best places to take their children, best
things to buy them and best activities to enjoy with them. We found the best
way to find out the truth about an activity, place, or product was to talk with
other parents 'in-the-know.'
Word-of-mouth is a valuable and reliable approach,
however, it is relatively limiting because it is only as good as your network of friends.
Plus, if you are like us, sometimes your tastes or preferences may be
different from your friends, especially when it comes to raising your children.
Or maybe you live in the East Bay and want to check out something in the South
Bay. Wouldn't it be great if you had a circle of friends in that area that could
offer you some tips?
As a result, we set out to find an online community where other parents could
benefit from the collective, shared experiences of everyone in the community and
not just who you know. Other sites we checked out lacked an insider's review,
had short notes that did not tell you why something was good (or bad) or were
biased by editors. When we did not find such a resource, we decided to start
something ourselves to help parents in similar shoes.
In February 2003, we launched ParentSays as a virtual community where parents
can meet, share ideas, support one
another and learn from one another.
We welcome you into our community.

How It Works
At ParentSays, members review and rate various topics suited for children. We
currently have the following categories: activities, books and videos, child care,
health care
and stores. This unbiased approach empowers parents to decide for themselves
what is best for their children based on the aggregated perspectives and opinions
of everyone in the community.
Our focus is on the first five years of a child's life -- the most critical years
for their development. These early years are also a time when parents have the most questions
and concerns. We categorize each activity, product and service by age and developmental area to help
you decide what's right for your child.
